Monitoring Student Progress Using Excel; Guided Practice - Page 1
General Goals:
Using this tutorial and included Excel spreadsheet, participants will:
- Enter student demographic information
- Enter student data
- Graph student data
- Draw and label decision lines
Student Information:
Sarah is a third grade student at your school in Ms. Rita Book’s homeroom. Her
date of birth is 3/13/2002. Sarah has been identified as a student with a specific
learning disability in the area of written communications. Her IEP is due
5/20/2012 and she has a reevaluation due 4/20/2013. Sarah also receives
speech and language services from Mrs. Speakeasy.
In the area of writing, Sarah shows specific strengths in her ability to fluently write
letters. Sarah attempts to use phonemic knowledge to spell unknown words. In addition
her letters and words show correct spacing and alignment within the lines
provided in her journal.
Sarah needs to improve her ability to generate original ideas during writing that
conform to spelling and grammar conventions.
Task 1: Complete Student Information
Step 1: Download the Progress monitoring tool and save the file as "SarahSample."
Step 2: Open "SarahSample" and click on "Student Info" tab located at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

Step 3: Complete “Student Info” sheet with the following information:
- School District
- School
- Student Name
- Date of birth and IEP and ReEval due dates
- Strengths
